On The Nightbeat
by Miss C.C. Bloom
.Well, it seems the snow just keeps piling up. Spring can’t be too far away, can it? Local folks got a taste of the warm nights to come on the first weekend in March as the Yadda Club, The Dock, Hamburger Mary’s and a couple of other spots hosted giant Mardi Gras parties. I
can tell you a rip roaring time was had by all.
.
One downtown nightspot that is always a good time, and has been for years and years, is The Subway. Be sure to catch their drag shows hosted by Ricki Lee Tanner on Saturday nights. Other great places to take in a good show these days include Wednesday nights at the Venus Club in Over the Rhine and Friday nights at The Dock. And don’t forget about the Ashley West show on Sundays at Woolly’s in Newport. .
Major construction has been underway at The Pipeline. It seems repairs were needed to the ceiling on the first floor and they decided it was a good excuse to remodel. Look for new lighting and comfortable seating coming soon. On March 22nd Pipeline will welcome DJ
Mike Braylen from NYC for its big "Military Ball" party. It promises to be a hot night with
lots of cute guys in uniform.
.
The Contemporary Arts Center is presenting a very unique fashion show on Friday March 21st. Local designer Patrick Howell will wel-come friends Ashley West, Hurricane Summers Quasi, and Scarlet Fever to model his collection of outlandish drag queen costumes. Mark your
calendars for this one, it will be unforgettable.
.
Designer Patrick Howell will be bringing his collection of outlandish performance costumes for female impersonators to the Contemporary Arts Center’s 64-foot runway on Friday March 21st. As part of its "Contemporary Fridays" series, the CAC will welcome Ashley West, Hurricane Summers, Quasi, Scarlet Fever and other local personalities who will be showcasing Patrick’s unique work in a very avante garde fashion extravaganza. .
The Know Theater Tribe will be presenting the controversial gay play "Corpus Christi" this spring. The group is holding open auditions for parts on Saturdays March 1st and 8th at 1pm. For
more information, call 513-300-5669.
.
Well, the new hot spot for women in the area is definitely the Yadda Club in Covington. Sandy Dittoe’s new bar offers dancing on the weekends, karaoke on Thursdays, Corn Hole on Wednesdays
and delicious hoagies and pizza all the time cooked up by Debbie, formerly of Mr. Ed’s Tap Room. The Yadda Club’s slogan is "Where Hot Women Meet Hot Women and Dance," but Sandy
stresses that men are always welcome. .
If 70s and 80s British pop and glam rock are your cup of tea, then be sure to check out the super hip "Boys and Girls" parties at Plush, upstairs at Carol’s on Main. The DJ duo known as Boy Radio pull out all the stops. You can also check out their
groovy tunes on Wednesday nights at Jacob’s.
.
Well that's it for this month. See you out and about!.
