All-ages GLBT Prom Offers an

"Island Paradise" on April 12

.

As a fantastic follow-up to two previous smash events, the Cincinnati chapter of the national organization GLSEN (The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) is proud to present the third annual GLSEN Prom on Saturday, April 12, from 9pm – 1am at Memorial Hall, located at 1225 Elm Street in Cincinnati.

.

This year’s event, entitled "Island Paradise: A Night Out Under the Stars" is a community-wide event that invites gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender persons and their straight supporters to celebrate diversity. Guests will mingle and dance with music, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, in addition to non-alcoholic beverages. The gala will also feature a professional photographer on site, entertainment by local talent and the chance to meet friends—new and old—in a welcoming atmosphere. An array of terrific door prizes donated by local businesses will also be awarded.

.

In the spirit of the event, guests are asked to show off their best prom attire while being classy and creative—formal fashion is open to interpretation. Guests’ fashion ensembles will be complimented by the tropical environment, as Memorial Hall is transformed into a sandy, serene beach under the stars.

.

Although the nature of the event is entitled as a "prom", GLSEN emphasizes that people of all ages and orientations are encouraged and welcome to join in the festivities. "It’s great to see so many different people—different ages, races and sexual orientations—attending the same event," says Nate Moster, GLSEN Special Events Chair.

.

"Last year’s event was a huge success for GLSEN and the entire GLBTQ community," he adds. "Based on attendance from the last two proms, we’re expecting over 300 guests this year!" Tickets for adults are $30 each and youth tickets, available to those ages 23 and under, are $15 each. Requests for tickets may be sent to GLSEN, P.O. Box 19856, Cincinnati, OH, 45219. Tickets can also be ordered by visiting the GLSEN website at www.glsencincinnati.org or e-mailing natemoster@glsencincinnati.org. All checks should be made payable to GLSEN.

.

GLSEN is the leading national organization working to end anti-gay bias in schools and the communities supporting them. Through presentations, seminars and educational tools, GLSEN creates learning environments that affirm the inherent dignity of all people, and, in doing so, teaches students and faculty to respect and accept everyone in their school and their community—regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. For more information about GLSEN and the services it offers to the community, you can visit www.glsencincinnati.org.
